Cheaters Never Win Podcast- Mid-Season Superlatives Edition

The January success train keeps on rolling, and we’re handing out our best and worst of the season thus far. Chantel McCabe joins us to talk team chemistry, goaltenders getting along, and nearly being murdered by an errant puck. We enjoyed one hell of a delicious brew from Gizmo BrewWorks to help fuel us through various ranting and raving.

Canes vs. Sabres 1/8 Recap: Everybody Gets A Goal!

If an offensive explosion occurs, and no one is there to see it, did it really happen? The Canes whooped up on Buffalo last night, scoring 5 goals for the first time since the Clinton administration (or Nov. 18). One can only imagine that kids in developing nations will be getting boxes of “Buffalo Sabres: 2015 McEichel Bowl Champions” t-shirts within a few weeks.

OH MY GOD!! Myers hit Gerbe so hard that his head turned into an older man’s head!

Canes vs. Caps 12/4 Recap: TACO TOWN!!

As of 9pm EST, our long Caniac Nation nightmare is over. Alex Semin no longer has a bagel in the goals column. Unfortunately for Canes fans and Anton Khudobin, the Capitals ended up leaving with 2 points on a night where the home team put forth a very up and down effort.

Canes vs. Preds 12/2 Recap: Cam Ward Doin’ Work

Facing off against one of the top teams in the league, the Canes would need a great effort Tuesday night to wash the taste of Saturday’s game out of everyone’s mouth. With the Predators coming to town, it meant the return of Laviolette and Cullen to the scene of their greatest glory. It also meant that the large and talented Shea Weber, the larger and also talented Pekka Rinne, rookie sensation Filip Forsberg, and everyone’s favorite d-bag Mike Ribeiro would be in the house.

So gather ’round, and bring 9,160 of your friends to the PNC Arena, it’s Canes hockey time!

Not entirely sure if Nestrasil is welcoming a celebration or asking if someone wants to go.

Name Your Price And Save: Hurricanes Trade Value Rankings

The march through the regular season is in full swing, and thusfar it’s been a roller coaster ride for Canes fans. Once you think the team starts playing poorly and you get ready for a horrible season (but potentially a date with Connor McDavid), they reel off a few wins in a row and look like a team that’s clicking. Then, when you start to get excited that the team is better than you imagined and Jim Mora’s least favorite “P word” starts to get mentioned by some, Paul Maurice comes by and slaps you down. This is the type of thing that turned Brutus Beefcake into the Zodiac.

Here’s the reality, though. By the end of February, it’s unlikely that the Carolina Hurricanes roster will look like it does today. Players get dealt, whether it be because they’re not working out, they’re pending free agents, or a deal comes around that’s just too good to pass up. As the days and weeks pass, there will be a lot of discussion about dealing players, and what the team could get from them. I thought it’d be helpful to put together a list of “value” of the players on the Canes roster. For right now, I’m sticking to players on the current NHL roster, but this list will eventually expand to all the players the Hurricanes organization currently has under contract, or retains the rights to. 20 Games Down, 62 To Go

After Saturday night’s game against Colorado, the Canes now have 20 games in the books, putting them at the quarter point of the season (well, 82 isn’t cleanly divisible by 4).

At the beginning of the season, most “experts” predicted the Hurricanes to be near the bottom of the standings. That was before Jordan Staal, Jeff Skinner, and Eric Staal all got hurt. Thankfully for Canes fans, games aren’t played on paper, right? Wellllllll…. We all know the outcomes: October was a dumpster fire, Novermber started strong, and has recently become a hodgepodge of outcomes.

Canes vs. Stars 11/18 Recap: GoalAPalooza

Last night’s game in Dallas ran the gamut of emotions and scenarios that hockey has to offer: there was early frustration, elation that bordered on befuddlement in the middle, with urgency and relief at the end. Simply a fun 60 minutes of hockey from a group of guys who played with a lot of visible G.A.S. (Give A Shit) last night.

After scoring a goal, Jiri Tlusty delivered a reasonably priced quote to repair a roof leak.
